The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing for public comment a draft regulatory guide (DG), DG, “Applications for Nuclear Power Plants.” This guidance is proposed Revision 1 to Regulatory Guide (RG) , “Combined License Applications for Nuclear Power Plants (LWR Edition),” dated June Decommissioning Nuclear Power Plants 4 hen a nuclear plant is retired, decommissioning is performed to protect both public health and safety and the environment from accidental releases of remaining radioactivity. As defined by U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) rules, decommissioning in-volves removing a reactor safely from service and.

The NRC’s operating licenses for commercial nuclear power reactors are valid for 40 years and may be renewed for an additional 20 years at a time. So far the agency has renewed 78 licenses and has applications for another 16 under review. No. MLA), the Commission directed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to proceed with an integrated rulemaking on decommissioning. The Commission further stated that this rulemaking should address: issues discussed in SECY, “Integrated Rulemaking Plan for Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning” (ADAMS Accession No.

The NEI submitted document NEI , “Diverse and Flexible Coping Strategies (FLEX) Implementation Guide” in August (ADAMS Accession No. MLA) to provide specifications for the nuclear power industry in the development, implementation, and maintenance of guidance and strategies in response to NRC Order EAAuthor: Joseph S. Miller.   The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is proposing to amend its regulations to incorporate by reference the and Editions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPV Code) and the and Editions of the ASME Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants, Division 1: .

4 concerning the results of a public workshop held in July to 5 explore issues related to the development of a proposed rule on 6 maintenance of nuclear power plants. The proposed rule was is 7 being prepared by the Staff, consistent with the Commission's.

NRC rulemaking on maintenance of nuclear power plants: Responsibility: M. Dey, workshop general Chairman ; sponsored by Division of Regulatory Applications, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Pacific Northwest Laboratory ; proceedings prepared by Pacific Northwest Laboratory.

The NRC's regulations, sometimes called rules, impose requirements that licensees must meet to obtain or retain a license or certificate to use nuclear materials or operate a nuclear facility.

These regulations govern the use of materials at such nuclear facilities as power plants, research reactors, uranium mills, fuel facilities.

The NRC undertook a public rulemaking process that culminated in the NRC issuing Section“Requirements for Monitoring the Effectiveness of Maintenance at Nuclear Power Plants,” to 10 CFR Part 50 on J This new regulation, commonly called the Maintenance Rule, did not require new maintenance methods or alter the frequency of preventative maintenance tasks.

This publication deals with the latest nuclear power plant maintenance optimization programmes and provides key requirements and strategies for successful implementation. It documents shared proven maintenance optimization methods and techniques from Member States, including more detailed examples in the annexes of this publication.

Prior to Decemberthe NRC issued NUREG, "Licensee Contractor and Vendor Inspection Status Report," (The White Book) to document the results of inspections performed by the NRC's Quality Assurance, Vendor Inspection, Maintenance and Allegations Branch that were distributed to the inspected organizations.

equivalent assurance that nuclear power plants can be operated without undue risk to the health and safety of the general public and site personnel.

Although these Codes and Safety Guides establish an essential basis for safety, they may require the incorporation of more detailed requirements in accordance with national Size: 2MB. The NRC is an independent agency chartered by Congress to regulate the civilian use of nuclear materials.

By law, we’re required to recover 90 percent of our budget from the companies and people that we provide services to (such as applicants for licenses, operating nuclear power plants that we inspect. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) recently put the final nail in the coffin of a nearly year proposed rulemaking effort that would have required licensees to remediate residual radioactivity resulting from licensed activities during facility operation, rather than at license termination as required by the current rules.

Operating Reactor Maintenance Effectiveness. The regulatory objective of the Maintenance Rule, 10 CFRis to require licensee monitoring of the overall continuing effectiveness of their maintenance programs to ensure the following: Safety-related structures, systems, and components (SSCs) and certain SSCs that are not safety related are capable of performing.

The NRC undertook a public rulemaking process that culminated in the NRC issuing Section“Requirements for Monitoring the Effectiveness of Maintenance at Nuclear Power Plants,” to 10 CFR Part 50 on J This new regulation, commonly called the Maintenance Rule. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing for public comment draft regulatory guide (DG), DG, ``Monitoring the Effectiveness of Maintenance at Nuclear Power Plants.'' This proposed guide, Revision 4, has been revised to addresses new issues identified since Revision 3 of RG.

The resident inspectors are not evacuating and an additional group of NRC inspectors has been on site and will remain so to back up the residents if need be. (At this time the hurricane is not expected to affect River Bend or Waterford nuclear power plants, but the NRC’s Region IV will continue to monitor the projected path.) Roger Hannah.

From tothe NRC evaluated the maintenance. The purpose of this book is to support IAEA training courses and workshops in the field of regulatory control of nuclear power plants as well as to support the regulatory bodies of Member States in their own training activities.

The target group is the professional staff. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or Commission), is withdrawing Regulatory Guide (RG), Revision (Rev.) 0, ``Assessing and Managing Risk Before Maintenance Activities at Nuclear Power Plants,'' published in May The document is redundant due to the inclusion of its subject.

The petition was docketed by the NRC on Jand was assigned Docket No. PRM On Septem (77 FR ), the NRC published a notice of receipt in the Federal Register.

The NRC did not request public comment on PRM APPLICATIONS FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS Regulatory Guide [Revision ] Purpose: Workshop to provide input to the NRC staff in the development of guidance on select topics to be included in the revised RG Documents: MLA46 RG Combined License Applications for Nuclear Power Plants () NRC staff developed approach.

Information supporting this can be found in the Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Reports for U.S. nuclear power plants that have ceased operations. In the report for the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, which was submitted to the NRC in Decemberit’s noted that the main emissions stack includes an attached nesting box for.

19th DOE/NRC NUCLEAR AIR CLEANING CONFERENCE REPORT ON THE CONAGT FIELD TESTJNG WORKSHOPS Dean M. Hubbard Duke Power Company Charlotte, North Carolina Abstract In the ASME Committee on Nuclear Air and Gas Treatment Equipment (CONAGT) held two workshops on the field testing of nuclear air cleaning systems. The NRC has been examining these issues for more than 30 years, starting in the late s when the agency studied how EMP could affect nuclear power plant safe-shutdown systems.

In February the NRC issued the study’s conclusion: nuclear power plants’ safety systems can do their jobs after an EMP event.a. the nuclear regulatory commission The Commission found a number of inadequacies in the NRC and, therefore, proposes a restructuring of the agency. Because there is insufficient direction in the present statute, the President and Congress should consider incorporating many of the following measures in statutory form.
